Patrick Ewing Jr. may not be playing for the Knicks anymore, but he is putting up consistent numbers in the NBDL, averaging 16.8 points per game and 8.5 rebounds. Now the former Hoya will get to showcase his high-flying dunking ability in the NBDL dunk contest on Friday night. Ahmad Rashad himself was impressed with Ewing’s dunks in a recent interview with Ewing the father and Ewing the son.
Brent Petway, the 2008 NBA D-League Slam Dunk Champion and a member of the Idaho Stampede, will defend his title against first-time NBA D-League Slam Dunk competitors Patrick Ewing, Jr. (Reno), Keith Clark (Tulsa) and James White (Anaheim). Ewing Jr. and White both participated in NCAA Slam Dunk competitions. Ewing Jr. finished as the runner-up in 2008 while White was a finalist in 2006.
One of Ewing’s competitors is asking fans for suggestions on dunks to do (here’s a video of some of his best). Of course anyone who saw the NCAA dunk contest knows that, despite his second place finish, Ewing was the best dunker of that group so maybe this will be vindication for him.
